St. Nicholas Montessori School - Classroom
Montessori Classroom

The Montessori Classroom is a carefully prepared environment designed to reinforce the child's independence and natural urge toward self-development. There is a wide range of Montessori materials, activities and experiences which are designed to foster physical, intellectual, creative and social independence. Each piece of material has a specific purpose and is presented in a manner that will enable the child to direct his / her own learning.
Mixed Aged Classes
The traditional Montessori class groupings are embraced in four classes:
• 2 Classes of 3 - 6 year olds
• 1 Class of 6 - 9 year olds
• 1 Class of 9 - 12 year olds
The mixed age grouping provides an environment where cooperation replaces competition, the young child benefits from interaction with the older role model. The older child, in a position of responsibility, is affirmed in his/her own learning. The classroom then becomes a living community.
All class teachers are graduates of the St. Nicholas Montessori College, which shares the facilities with the school.
